課程概述

「地理模擬(GEOSIMULATION)」是關於空間模擬模式研究的概括性稱謂,近年來成為受矚目之研究領域,其中都市成長、蔓延、犯罪等相關都市地理學課題,是受到從事地理模擬學者所關注的領域之一。
此門課程的開授有助於深化臺大地理系之地理資訊科學領域,尤其是都市成長擴散的空間量化模式以及土地利用、空氣汙染、犯罪、公共健康等與城市生活有關面向之空間模式分析 。
This course introduces students to a wide spectrum of methods suitable for modeling and simulating geographic phenomena. Different types of models and how each can be built will be examined first to lay the foundation for discussion on simulation. Emphasis will be placed on the unique characteristics of geographic information as opposed to information that is not geo-referenced.

Geosimulation will be discussed with simulators that the instructor developed, including an Urban Growth Simulator, an Urban Crime Simulator, and an Urban Health Simulator. Additional raster-based simulators will also be discussed.

 

課程目標
As the course uses only developed software, there is no prerequisite for any background in computer programming. However, experience in using GIS and related software tools will be helpful.  
課程要求
Classroom lectures and discussions will be the primary format in class. Additionally, hands-on laboratory sessions with assignments will be used to supplement the materials discussed in class.

此外,授課教師將針對大學部、碩士班、博士班學生給予不同的考評要求與學術上的訓練。
Examinations (1st, 2nd, and Final): All students are required to take the three examinations given to measure the success of student learning. Examinations may include short answer questions and/or essay questions. Focus of the examinations will be placed on ensuring students’ understanding of the concepts, theories, and methodology discussed in class lectures and demonstrated in laboratory exercises. All examinations will cover topics discussed since the last examination.

Laboratory exercises (various): All students are required to complete the assigned laboratory exercises. In general, each exercise is due in a week of time from when it’s assigned.

Book Review: All students registered in Master degree program are required to do a book review. The selection of the book to be reviewed should be approved by the instructor by the 5th week. An acceptable outcome should be a manuscript ready for submission to academic journals in geography.

Term Project: All students registered in PhD degree program are required to carry out a term project that applies the materials discussed in class. By the 2nd week, each PhD candidate in class should submit to the instructor a one-page plan for the term project that outlines the topic, methods, data source and quality, and expected results to obtain an approval.
